What is Pioneer Days
For two days, Pioneer Days Family Festival
offers a wholesome, old-fashioned lifestyle experience full of
family activities and entertainment. The festival combines an
education about our American heritage with lots of fun. We want to
familiarize the public with arts and traditions seldom seen in our
modern world. We invite you to join us in this exhibition of
traditional pioneer crafts and skills such as:
Basketry - Blacksmithing - Cane Cooking - Civil
War Encampments - Indian Village - Pottery - Quilting - Spinning -
Storytelling - Weaving - Wood Carving - and much, much more...
Pioneer Days also feature live music
performances including Bluegrass, Country, Southern Gospel,
Mountain, Jazz, Blues, and Big Band Swing. Vendors will offer plenty
of good food and cold drinks (no alcoholic beverages) to be enjoyed
as you listen to the bands or wander through the lifestyle and arts
and crafts areas searching for a perfect gift or souvenir.
Community Impact
It is essential to recognize the past and to see the sacrifices of
our Founding Fathers. This event stirs the pioneer spirit buried
deep inside all of us. We need to open people's eyes to the beauty
and simplicity of the community coming together. Today, we often
hear that the American family is deteriorating. Pine Castle is
committed to preserving the traditional family way of life at an
affordable cost. The Pioneer Days Family Festival is our
contribution to the families of Central Florida. In order to build
for the future, we need to remember the past. In sharing the skills,
crafts, and lifestyles of the years gone by, we will ensure that
they never die. The Festival offers a great mix of old fashioned fun
and games along with those that attract today's families.
Background
The Pioneer Days Family Festival was created by the Pine Castle
Center of the Arts in 1973 to bring the community together in a
celebration of the rich heritage of our forefathers. When the Pine
Castle Center of the Arts disbanded in 1993, Pine Castle United
Methodist Church carried on the mission that our heritage must be
remembered and shared with today's generation. |
